5 Best Laptops For Oculus Quest 2

While the Oculus Quest 2 is a standalone VR headset, there are still times when you might want to connect it to a computer. For example, if you want to play games that aren’t available on the Quest store, you’ll need to use Oculus Link. This requires a computer with a USB 3.0 port that can support the connection. So, if you’re looking for the best laptops for Oculus Quest 2, here are some of the best options.

Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 15

Top Choice

This machine is capable of joining dots and answering all of your queries about VR games. Equipped with an AMD Ryzen 5600H processor, and Nvidia 10th series graphics card can cut away everything you through. According to our testing, the AMD processor can provide all the necessary gaming facilities at its best. You cannot expect a better machine for under $1000.

Its display quality impressed me the most, 1080p display, with a 120Hz matte screen to magnify the gaming experience. I know 120Hz is a bit low when many laptops offer about 144Hz display, but it can still facilitate premium gaming.

It offers about 8 – hours of battery life. If you want to increase the performance, use it at low brightness. The difference between high and low power was about 2 – 4 Watt. Moreover, you can adjust the cooling speed of the fan as well. To achieve maximum performance of the fan and its battery, adjust the fan speed to 50% – 60%.

If you remove its back panel, you will see some additional slots for the M2 hard drive and extra RAM slots as well. If you add an extra RAM or RAM, you will witness a clear difference in its performance and load time.

Acer Nitro 5

I never thought that Acer would manufacture such a beast. 9th generation i5 processor, 256GBs of storage, 8GB DDR4 RAM, graphics card, excellent display, and never-ending battery life. What more do you expect for $800?

However, I would recommend the addition of 8GB RAM and 1TB of ROM for a flawless VR gaming experience. Upgraded 16GB DDR4 ram would be more than enough to load any virtual game. Just remove its back panel, and add extra equipment by yourself.

I noticed that its fan gets a bit loud when the device is under a heavy load of games. But I don’t think it would be a problem, because I had headphones most of the time. But I didn’t notice any burn or even the slightest heat exposure. Moreover, the battery can easily last about 3 – 5 hours while gaming.

2021 ASUS TUF FX706

What an absolute gem! I have always loved ASUS products because of their spectacular built-in quality, performance, specifications, and much more to mention. You won’t find a machine that can handle every virtual game with ease and speed.

The first thing that I noticed about this device was its RAM and ROM. Can you imagine a 16GB DDR4 built-in RAM and 1TB of storage? Every laptop that I have reviewed needed to be upgraded in terms of its storage options. But not this one! The built-in specification is more than enough, but you should still upgrade RAM to 32GB.

Big screen size always attracts, right? On this laptop, you will get 17.3 inches of full HD display. 144Hz IPS level refresh rate that can be adjusted to 6Hz will provide a sharp display. Moreover, Nvidia 30 series contributes to enhancing its display.

As I’ve mentioned in my buying guide, you should go for the latest-generation laptop. So, ASUS offers an 11th generation i5 processor to provide speed and reliability.

Lenovo Legion Y540

Everything you expect of a gaming device comes with this laptop. 9th generation i7 processor, graphics, storage options, everything matches our buying recommendations.

As compared to its previous model, Lenovo has made tons of improvements this model. For example, the cooling system is of premium quality. Along with some modifications, the company disappointed us in its graphics options. Its older model came with Nvidia 2060 card, while this device is equipped with a lower 1660 card.

Moreover, it comes with 512 GB of M1 storage option and 16 GB DDR4 ram, which on the other hand, is quite impressive. I think this storage would be enough for a premium virtual gaming experience. Moreover, we got 4 hours of battery timing.

Omen by HP 2019

One of the few i7 laptops we have reviewed. The way I see this machine, it is made for pure gaming and nothing else at all. So, please don’t buy this device for office use, because you will end up hating it.

This comes with the 9th generation of i7 processor and Nvidia 6GB graphics card. I think these specifications are enough to handle virtual games at their best. Magnificent graphics and processing speed dive you into the game.

The only thing that I dislike about this laptop is its fan sound, and whenever you load heavy games, it heats up. But, the speed or smoothness of the game does not get affected. The sound of its fans is the reason why I don’t recommend it for business-related use.

ASUS ROG Strix Hero III

So far, this is the best VR-ready laptop that I am going to review. What a beast! This is the same as the previous Oman laptop; you cannot use it for business-related programs.

Can you imagine a 144Hz refresh rate with a full HD display? I know this sounds surprising because of its affordable price, but ASUS offered that in this device. Moreover, the Nvidia graphics card enhances its display for VR games as well. Along with RTX 2070 card, it comes with a built-in Intel graphics chip. Even with the Intel chip, I got about 3 hours of battery life.

One of the few laptops on my list that offers an RGB keyboard. Its backlight keyboard is stellar. With some manual configuration, you can use it on Linux as well. The built-in quality of ASUS has always been outstanding. It is a bit heavier and thicker than I hoped, but beneath its heavy body lies robust specification. So, you have to compromise on something.

As compared to Oman, the fan quality is much better. It does not have a loud sound, and it is good at keeping the temperature at a minimum.

ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14

A lightweight, highly equipped with the latest tech, and excellent built-in quality under $1500. Read on! So, I am in love with this machine. I ran about three heavy VR games, and I got surprising results and performance. I think this is the only device that comes with everything, like battery life, display, speed, portability, and built-in quality.

It comes with RTX 2060 graphics card and offers an edgy display for virtual gaming. In the beginning, I struggled to run it smoothly, but after I installed some additional display drivers and went through its manual setting, I got what I’ve always wished for.

16GB DDR4 ram and 1Tb PCIe storage option are a bit disappointing. However, with some additional investments, I unlocked its true potential. Right now, the device is flying to the heights. I upgraded its RAM to 32GB and didn’t upgrade its ROM. I will recommend you do the same. After this upgrade, I ran Destiny Rouge, GOD of War, and Leagues of Legend at full display options, and everything ran smoothly.

2021 ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 (Gtx 1650)

This is the same laptop we have mentioned above, but it still has some differences. First of all, it has a different graphics card from its previous variant. That version had a Gtx 2060 card, but this one operates on a bit lower Gtx 1650 graphics card.

The graphics card can make a huge difference, and I saw it while playing the same games. Get 2070 could easily handle AAA games at premium graphics, but this laptop could not perform well. According to our testing, we noticed about a 30% difference.
