Best Router for Starlink

Best Router for Starlink

Starlink is not your typical internet service provider; it’s something unique, innovative, and constrained. However, since you are looking for a Starlink-compatible router, you probably live in an area where regular cable internet providers aren’t available, so let us review all of the best routers for Starlink 2022.

The company launched several satellites around the world and provided a service that was superior to a standard internet connection. However, it is possible that a well-known and well-reviewed product might not work for you.

The Starlink dish does have a distinct DHCP implementation that some routers do not work perfectly with. It provides a 192.168.100.x DHCP address temporarily so that you can configure it, and then it provides the CGNAT address once it connects to satellites, so some routers get stuck because of this quick DHCP change.

To help you, we will try to give you all of the information needed, so keep on reading!

Best Router for Starlink 2022

NETGEAR 4-Stream

According to our testing, we found this router as a good fit for Starlink internet connection. We got excellent speed, availability, better coverage than traditional routers, and reliability. If you are not getting enough speed with your installed router, you need to replace that with this one.

After the installation, I struggled to download or upload my files and stream at the same time. It would affect the speed while multitasking. But after some simple configuration, I am now able to do so. But r6700v2 was pretty disappointing. 880MHz MediaTek is slower than the 1GHz cortex-a9 processor and could not offer the expected performance.

Overall, I am in love with this machine because it has provided solid speed performance since its installation. The v3 variant is much better than v2 because it supports dd-wrt features. Moreover, you will not struggle in the configuration process because of the simple and user-friendly interface.

TP-Link AC1900

If your expectations are not high and you are on a limited budget, this might be your solution for Starlink problems. I used it for HD streaming, browsing, and downloading; surprisingly, I got all three of them simultaneously.

I used this router with three wired devices, five wireless connections, and I didn’t face any speed drops at all. All of those devices had good Starlink speed. The router can offer 600MBps speed on a 2.4GHz wireless band and more than 1200MBps speed on a 5GHz wireless band, impressive for $100. It is equipped with three antennas that can offer maximum coverage (about 2000 square feet) because of beamforming tech.

I won’t recommend it for larger organizations with multiple floors to cover. But if you are tight on budget and want an under-budget router with various features like Alexa, you should buy this.

ARRIS SURFboard SBG10 DOCSIS

After our testing and reading some reviews of this device, we are very impressed. However, I think that this is a bit odd-looking device for a router. But let’s not fall into the looks. We tried several speed tests and couldn’t notice any difference in speed while downloading or uploading because this is what most routers did. So far, it has provided me with reliable speed.

The only thing I disliked about this device was its configuration on my iPhone. Sadly, I couldn’t figure out a way to do so. But it ran swiftly on android and windows devices, and it took me less than 10 minutes to configure this. I successfully configured my router without calling their help centre or following any YouTube tutorial, even though I am not a tech expert.

Moreover, I found its 2.4GHz band more efficient than other routers that I have used. The frequency range provided strong signals, and I couldn’t see much difference between the 5G and Starlink connection. Overall, I think it’s a pretty good device with $100 and 4 years of warranty.

NETGEAR Nighthawk (RAX40)

With the improvement in throughput of Wifi 6 routers compared to traditional Wifi 5, this modem is suitable for Starlink internet. So, this is another device that can provide efficiency within the home and gig-level usages.

I didn’t face any problems while browsing and streaming because of the top speed (about 2000MPbs) of both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands combined. The router efficiently managed to provide 100MBps downloading speed and 50MBps uploading speed. Besides, Starlink is not expected to achieve high speed yet; the tested speed can still run anything you through. It used 1024 QAM tech and was equipped with a quad-core CPU to enhance the data transfer rate.

This is a 4-stream wireless router for Starlink with two external and one internal antenna combined with Beamforming features to enhance the coverage. We got about 1600 Square feet of coverage.

Google Wifi – AC1200

If you cannot find any mesh router for Starlink connection, then you haven’t been looking in the right place. You will not have to worry about connection with the Starlink receiver because this mesh router allows the users to use a single device to connect them to the receiver.

I’ve seen some devices that can hardly touch a 100MBps speed on their 5GHz band. But this router can easily compete with those devices by providing 90MBps on its 2.4GHz band. I recorded the downloading speed drop at 85MBps and the maximum upload speed of 53MBps for uploading. You can rely on its quad-core processor and its wave two standards for wireless signals.

If you have an ethernet cable available at your store, then you should not be worrying about its installation. You want better speed, then you should connect the ethernet with its WAN port and use the ethernet connection instead of wireless.

TP-Link Deco X20

This is the second mesh router I’ve reviewed in this blog because mesh routers are more efficient than traditional Wifi systems. Just like the previous product, this can provide both wired and wireless connections efficiently.

Compared to other dual-band routers, I’ve noticed better speed, 250 times better than the Wifi 5 system. In our testing, we got 1300MBps speed on its 5GHz band and about 653MBps on its 2.4 GHz band. So, clearly a value for your money. As for the mesh system, it can quickly go up to 100MBps speed for downloading and uploading.

The only thing I disliked about this router was its auto-update system. Whenever a system update comes online, it starts updating itself. It is not that bad, but I hate when I have to wait for the completion of the update (about 10 – 15 minutes for every update).

TP-Link Archer AX6000

I have seen some complaining comments about how Starlink connection cannot manage up to 150MBps of speed. If you are facing the same problem, then TP-link has a solution. The best thing about this is its DFS support, enhancing speed, and excellent coverage.

Our speed testing detected the downloading and uploading speed of 130MBps and 80MBps, respectively. Because it is a dual-band router, you will witness about 100MBps and 50MBps download and upload speeds, respectively. These speed tests were specifically for Starlink internet.

As I have mentioned in previous TP-link products, they are known for their efficiency and ease. I didn’t see any hurdle in installation. Moreover, it allows you to spectate the internet activities on connected devices, a good step toward security concerns.

Gryphon AC3000

Gryphon is an underrated brand of all time, period. Some famous routers that claim to provide about 150MBps speed for Starlink internet haven’t seen gryphon in the field.

In our testing, we detected about 200MBps of speed for Starlink internet connection. So far, this was the highest speed I’ve recorded for the Starlink router because Starlink is limited to 150MBps. Other than just speed, this router is pretty famous for its connectivity and security concerns. First of all, it runs on OpenWRT, a custom design security protocol ideal for keeping hackers away.

If you want intense coverage, I will suggest the pack of these routers and design a mesh of them. This is how you can use these routers in your business building. Moreover, the installation is more straightforward than other routers. Just install its application, and keep everything like usage schedule, parental control, and monitoring in your device.

Linksys AX3200 E8450

I waited for a month before reviewing this modem to see its true face, totally worth it—another high-performance router under $150, with Wifi 6 standards and dual-band tech.

For its speed, I managed to get 850MBps and 2000MBps for 2.4GHz and 5Ghz bands, respectively. These are theoretical speed results. If you want this router for a Starlink connection, then you can get a roundabout of 110MBps. In my opinion, I would say this is exceptionally good for something under $150.

This router is my favourite in terms of design – it gives a spiky look with excellent coverage. You won’t see any antennas because they are internally designed. As far as the range is concerned, you will get a roundabout of 3000 square feet quickly.

Surprisingly, I don’t know why the company hasn’t worked on their configuration system and mobile application when everything else is fine. The users have to visit ASUS web-based application to configure this router.

Tenda AC23

It offers unbeatable Wifi coverage and performance because of its 802.11ac Wifi Wave 2 technology. One of the highest speeds I’ve recorded, theoretically and for Starlink. The overall speed was about 2000MBps, both 2.4GHz and 5GHz combined.

Moreover, if you connect the router with an ethernet cable, you will get better speed than that. For the Starlink connection, the router efficiently managed to cross 100MBps in our recording. Plus, if you want reliable speed for internet activities, I will not recommend more than 30 devices at a time, because after that you will be facing some speed problems.

It works with Alexa, and that is why it supports some auto-update settings.

Buying guide: Best Router for Starlink

Before diving into the details of the best routers for Starlink, we must identify some major problems and provide a solution for them. So far, I’ve seen many users struggling in two stages.

How to connect to Starlink internet?

Because of the rapidly-growing industry, SpaceX’s Starlink connection is getting tons of orders and is highly demanded all over the globe. This is because the company is continuously trying to increase the number of satellites around orbit. About 1241 satellites have already been launched.

Still, these numbers will not help someone set up the whole operation of Starlink internet connection within their residence. After much testing and investment, we have identified the ideal procedure and best practices to set up Starlink internet in your home or office.

  1. Find optimal and 100 degrees of space under the sky.
  2. Open the Starlink box, and you will find some papers with instructive drawings on them. Along with instructions, you will find the Kit attached with a tripod and a 100 feet long cable.
  3. Now, you won’t have to connect the router with the cables and terminal. You have to attach the terminal with the tripod, which is pretty straightforward. Just place the tripod on the floor, and enter the terminal’s rod into it.
  4. Connect the remaining end of the cable into any nearest power source. When two white lights appear on the terminal, it will automatically lift towards the sky.
  5. Now, it’s time to download and install the Starlink application on your smartphone. Start the setup, and open the Wifi settings.

These are a few steps to set up a Starlink internet connection efficiently.

How to receive Starlink internet?

The access to Starlink internet connection is dependent on your location. If you want to use this internet connection instead of a traditional one, you must sign up for a Starlink service plan. It is going to be a regular signup method, but it is not for free. You will have to add the required information and pay about $100 for the signup fee. Whenever their services are available in your area, you will be notified on your registered email. However, the average waiting time is about six months – 1 year.

Reliable router to use with Starlink

Starlink is not providing the same satellite internet services as some companies. Starlink is more reliable, but you must use a dedicated router to get maximum efficiency out of their services. Starlink connection is not a piece of cake to get, and few routers can handle and provide availability. To save your hard work, we have provided the best routers for Starlink internet.

FAQs

Is Starlink better than 5g?

I don’t see any comparison between both of them. But if you need an answer to that, then 5G is your winner. This is because Starlink is still struggling and in its development stages. After enough tech improvement, I think Starlink will surely beat the competition.

Why is Starlink so popular?

The best thing about Starlink is it eliminates the restrictions and allows the user to enjoy high speed and secure internet connection directly from the sky. Although it is in its development stages, still getting a lot of heat.

All the routers that we have tested and mentioned in our shortlist are 100% capable of providing efficient Starlink connections. But if you are still confused, I will highly recommend the NETGEAR 4-Stream WiFi 6 router as the solution to your problems.
