Oculus Quest 2 Not Turning ON? 7 Ways to On Your Headset

Oculus Quest 2 Not Turning ON

No doubt, Oculus Quest 2 is one of the most reliable and advanced VR headsets available, but still, users have experienced some technical errors. Sometimes, it won’t turn ON, and all you are left with is a black screen. This can happen due to various reasons such as a flat battery, corrupt firmware, stuck updates, and even hardware damage. But we are here to help you solve this issue; this article contains seven ways about how you can get your Oculus Quest 2 to work.

How to Fix: When Oculus Quest 2 Not Turning ON

Charge the battery

Your Oculus Quest 2 will not turn ON when it does not have enough juice to power it up. Battery drains faster while using power-hungry applications or watching a movie. So, plug your headset with a compatible USB charger, leave it for some time and see what happens. The charging indicator turns green once it is fully charged. If you are unable to charge it, try using a spare USB cable to charge. But if the problem still persists, it might be due to malfunctioned charging port. For this, you have to take it to the service station and get it repaired or replaced. Moreover, if your Oculus Quest 2 is under warranty, you can return the corrupt one and get a new one.

Do a Hard reboot

A hard reboot is one of the first things to try if your Oculus Quest 2  is not getting powered. To do this, tap the power button and hold it for 10-30 seconds. This will cause the headset to force a hard reboot, getting it into a normal state.

Check Proximity sensor

There is a proximity sensor located right above the bridge of the nose in Oculus Quest 2, which detects if it is on your head or not by detecting the distance between your face and headset. Sometimes it fails to detect if the headset is strapped on, so the screen appears black. Cover the sensor with your thumb and check if the black screen goes away or the headset works normally. If it works normally, it means there is a gap or damage due to which light passes through the foam insert. For this, try detaching any custom modifications such as silicon covers or custom foam pads because they can interfere with the working of the sensor.

But if the black screen still persists, clean the proximity sensor with a dry microfiber cloth to wipe accumulated dirt and see the difference. Moreover, you can also cover the sensor area with dark tape, which will allow you to use it for a while.

Leave Oculus Quest 2 for a while

Sometimes the Oculus Quest 2 do not turn ON because it is in the middle of a software update. In this case, the best thing is just to wait and let the gadget do its thing. Plugin the charger, place the headset on a flat surface and leave it alone for 30 minutes.

Controller menu buttons

Oculus Quest 2  comes with two controllers with different control buttons on them, which may help in turning ON the headset. First, press the power button on your headset, then tap the Oculus button on the right controller and the menu button on the left one. See if this gives you the access to Oculus menu and if that happens, try to open any app. In some cases, this method has worked for the users to resume normal work. However, if this isn’t happening for you, check out the next steps.

Perform a Factory reset

When nothing else seems to power up Oculus Quest 2, the factory reset is the best weapon to refit it. But this is an extreme step because it will erase all the data from your Oculus Quest 2  and restore it to a fresh state with default settings. You have to download the whole data once the reset has finished. So, make sure “Factory reset” be your last option after you have attempted all other options. You can factory reset the Oculus Quest 2  by two methods; either by using the headset or through the Oculus app.

Factory reset through the Oculus app.

  • Open the Oculus app on your mobile
  • Click the Settings in the bottom menu and select the headset connected to your phone.
  • Press More Settings, click on factory reset and then reset.

Factory reset using the headset.

  • Turn off the headset.
  • Click the power button and volume down button and hold for at least 10 seconds simultaneously until the boot screen appears on the headset.
  • Navigate to factory reset option using volume buttons on headset and press power button to proceed
  • Now with the help of volume buttons, highlight the yes and press the power button to confirm.

After the reset is completed, check if your Oculus Quest 2  works properly. Factory resetting fixes the problem most of the time, but if your headset is still not working, see the next method.

Contact Oculus support

If you have tried every possible way and the Oculus Quest 2 is still not turning On, then there must be an issue with your hardware. This is usually the case when you can’t get your gadget powered even after a factory reset or can’t access the boot screen to reset the Oculus Quest 2 . This is when you must contact the product manufacturers for professional assistance. You can submit a report to Oculus Support and list down all the ways you have already tried. This will save you from the initial recommendations of the support team and help them find the cause of the problem more quickly.

Wrap up

After all, Oculus Quest 2 is a gadget, and like other gadgets, it can have technical issues. Try the methods mentioned above, and we are sure that they will work. But if the problem still exists even after trying these solutions, you may need to look for any damage in hardware.
